چکیده

This papers studies and compares the asymptotic bias of GMM and generalized empirical likelihood (GEL) estimators in the presence of estimated nuisance parameters. We consider cases in which the nuisance parameter is estimated from independent and identical samples. A simulation experiment is conducted for covariance structure models. Empirical likelihood offers much reduced mean and median bias, root mean squared error and mean absolute error, as compared with two-step GMM and other GEL methods. Both analytical and bootstrap bias-adjusted two-step GMM estimators are compared. Analytical bias-adjustment appears to be a serious competitor to bootstrap methods in terms of finite sample bias, root mean squared error and mean absolute error. Finite sample variance seems to be little affected. JEL Classification: C13, C30

Higher Order Properties of Gmm and Generalized Empirical Likelihood Estimators

In an effort to improve the small sample properties of generalized method of moments (GMM) estimators, a number of alternative estimators have been suggested. These include empirical likelihood (EL), continuous updating, and exponential tilting estimators. We show that these estimators share a common structure, being members of a class of generalized empirical likelihood (GEL) estimators. We us...

Three Essays on Econometrics

This thesis consists of three chapters that cover separate topics in econometrics. The first chapter demonstrate a negative result on the asymptotic sizes of subset AndersonRubin tests with weakly identified nuisance parameters and general covariance structure. The result of Guggenberger et al (2012) in case of homoskedasticity is shown to break down when general covariance structure is allowed...

Bayesian Properties of Minimum Divergence and Generalized Empirical Likelihood Methods (PRELIMINARY DRAFT)∗

When the object of the statistical analysis is the estimation of an economic model, the choice of a likelihood function should be coherent with the economic model under investigation. Many econometric models provides the researcher with weak “structural prediction” about the parameter of interest and the data. Econometric models specified through moment conditions and usually estimated by Gener...

Targeted estimation of nuisance parameters to obtain valid statistical inference.

In order to obtain concrete results, we focus on estimation of the treatment specific mean, controlling for all measured baseline covariates, based on observing independent and identically distributed copies of a random variable consisting of baseline covariates, a subsequently assigned binary treatment, and a final outcome. The statistical model only assumes possible restrictions on the condit...
